Instagram Automation allows you to manage Direct Messages (DMs), reply to story mentions, and handle quick replies automatically.

Prerequisites

Before connecting, ensure you meet the following requirements:

Business Account

Your Instagram account must be a Business Account (or Creator account), not a personal profile.

Facebook Page

Your Instagram account must be connected to a Facebook Page where you have admin access.

Configuration Guide

To enable Chatbot Builder AI to read and reply to your messages, you must explicitly grant access in the Instagram app.

Connect to Facebook Page

  1. Go to your Facebook Page Settings.
  2. Navigate to Linked Accounts > Instagram.
  3. Click Connect Account and log in with your Instagram credentials.

Enable Message Access (Critical)

By default, Instagram blocks third-party apps from reading messages. You must enable this toggle in the mobile app:
  1. Open the Instagram App on your phone.
  2. Go to Settings & Privacy.
  3. Tap on Messages and Story Replies (or Message Controls).
  4. Scroll down to Connected Tools.
  5. Toggle Allow Access to Messages to ON.
If this toggle is OFF, the chatbot will not receive any messages, even if the integration looks successful on the dashboard.

Connect Channel

  1. Log in to Chatbot Builder AI.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Channels > Instagram.
  3. Click Connect.
  4. Select the Facebook Page associated with your Instagram account.

Troubleshooting

  • Check the Toggle: Re-verify that “Allow Access to Messages” is ON in the Instagram App.
  • Handover Protocol: If you use multiple apps (like Inbox zero or other CRMs), ensure Chatbot Builder AI is set as the “Primary Receiver” in your Facebook Page settings under Advanced Messaging.
  • Ensure you are an Admin of the Facebook Page.
  • Verify the Instagram account is converted to Business Professional mode. Personal accounts are not supported by the Meta API.
